When a dental emergency occurs, we ask that you call our office as soon as possible. To ensure you receive the care you need, we may conduct a short interview. This will help us to address the issue in a timely manner.

  • Scheduling an appointment – Once you get in touch with a member of our team, we’ll assess your emergency, let you know how soon you need to come in, and set up an appointment for you accordingly. Until then, we can give you tips for reducing your discomfort at home.
  • Conducting an emergency exam – When you get to our office, Dr. Davies will see you right away. He’ll quickly, yet thoroughly, examine your smile both visually and by taking X-rays to detect problems that may be hidden under the surface.
  • Providing quick, gentle care – After the exam, we will share our findings and recommendations for addressing your emergency and preventing the symptoms from returning. Our team will also outline the expected costs of your dental treatment.

Tips for caring for your smile until you reach our dental office:

Chipped Tooth

Locate any large pieces of the broken-off tooth that you can. Apply gentle pressure to slow the bleeding by biting down on damp gauze or a clean cloth.

Knocked-Out Tooth

If you’re able to recover the knocked-out tooth, carefully clean the tooth with cool water. Handle teeth by the biting surface, avoiding touching the sensitive roots, and make sure not to remove natural tissues during cleaning. The best way to transport the tooth to our office is to replace it in the empty socket. If this is not possible, store the tooth in a container of milk until you arrive at our practice.

Jaw Pain or Clenching

If you believe your jaw is broken, proceed to your local emergency room and call our office on the way. While you are likely to need dental treatment following a broken jawbone, it is of the utmost importance to ensure your safety by working with the facilities and physicians available in the emergency room.

Gums, Lip, or Tongue Injury

For deep cuts in the lip, mouth, cheeks, or tongue, apply pressure to slow bleeding, and use an ice pack in 20-minute intervals (20 on and 20 off) to reduce pain. If you are unable to stop the bleeding, proceed to your nearest emergency room. Call us on the way, and we’ll be happy to partner with your physician.
